New Riff Kentucky Wild Gin

Score: 17/23 This gin is quite ambiguous regarding its flavor profile, but I took a chance due to the reasonable price and my need for a new gin. Aroma: Pleasant juniper with a more earthy, slightly savory root scent, alongside hints of lemon, chamomile, and licorice. Overall, it presents a nice, classic dry gin character. Taste: Oh, this is quite enjoyable. There's a clear juniper presence that is noticeable but not overpowering. It also has a subdued, sharp spiciness, like a blend of white and black pepper, with a slight oiliness contributing various herbal and earthy complexities (though leaning more herbal than earthy). It's sweet but not excessively so. There are occasional hints of lemon rind. It's very well-balanced, offering good flavors and solid complexity while maintaining a clean, somewhat crisp profile. There's also a subtle mustiness present, reminiscent of a certain brand, but in a positive way (without any off-putting fishiness). Finish: Clean and smooth, with lingering oiliness, herbs, lemon, and mild spices. - Conclusion - This is exceptionally well-crafted. It provides strong competition for another well-regarded gin (score 16/23), but I believe this one surpasses it. The other gin lacks the subtle depth found here. I'm confident this is at least a 16, and more likely a 17 or even an 18. The difference isn't vast, but it's definitely present. Another gin (score 18/23) is certainly superior. The gap between this and that gin is comparable to the gap between this and the other well-regarded gin. I previously thought I had rated the superior gin higher, but apparently not. It might warrant that higher rating now. I'm considering a 17 or 18 for this one. I'll settle on a 17, which is a fantastic score. I'm very pleased I decided to try this on impulse. I was anticipating a somewhat unremarkable gin that relied on being slightly unusual and self-proclaimed as "craft," but that was not the case at all. This is an excellent discovery and will likely become my go-to if I can find more at a similar price point.

This gin is fantastic. It has a traditional aroma of citrus and juniper, plus some spice. On the palate, you get spice, juniper, a little citrus, and some bitterness. The finish is a smooth, buttery juniper. I bet it's even more delightful in a gin and tonic.
