Monkey 47 Sloe Gin

The aroma is so similar in intensity and complexity to the standard Monkey 47 that you might fear the sloughberry addition is too subtle. Thankfully, the oily, smooth impression when sipped neat dispels any confusion with a leading cherry and spice profile over a characteristically Monkey-esque foundation. Adding Indian tonic water enhances the spiciness and juniper-forward herbal notes of the original, creating an enjoyable frame for the sweet cherry at its core. Berry tonic blends its components with the cherry, yielding an almost excessively smooth, pleasing fruity berry character.

Hmm, this one is hard to rate. I generally don't care for sweet drinks or sloe gin. It's very flavorful and actually pretty nice on its own. If you enjoy sloe gin, you should give it a try. Unfortunately, mixing it with some frankly terrible Schweppes tonic made it a disaster. I'm not sure if sloe gin is meant for mixing? (Okay, I'm not too lazy to look it up, but I was watching the end of a rugby game and chatting with people, so I didn't want to be rude and stare at my phone!). It's a lovely drink, but I suspect I'd quickly tire of its subtlety.

Aromatic and crisp. Excellent when mixed with a berry-flavored fruit drink, it gives the cocktail a candy-like quality.

With notes of cinnamon and spice. The finest gin and tonic I have ever sampled.
