Momokawa Diamond

Rating: 13/23 I apparently didn't take detailed notes on this one, but it's not quite good enough for me to purchase another bottle to complete my tasting. - In my glass, this literally looks like diamond or possibly silver. Wow. Those are two different Momokawa sakes! Aroma: Taste: Nothing amazing, but it's not excessively bitter or very earthy. I get a lot of tropical fruit without excessive sweetness or banana. This is served chilled. It's a bit more tropical than typical sake. Rather than medium dry, I'd classify this as being right between a dry junmai and a sweet nigori. The extra polishing in this junmai ginjo seems to have paid off with a clean and decently complex flavor. I have no problem sipping this. There's even a good amount of coconut in it. It's okay, but not at the 15 level of sippability. It's slightly muddled with some flavors that are a bit off from what I truly desire. Still, I approve of this sake. At $11, it's hard to find fault. The ABV is also quite high (which I guess explains that taste of alcohol), so that contributes to the value for money aspect. This is undoubtedly better than a 10 and it probably beats a 12, but it's certainly not better than a 15. I'm thinking 13. For the price, it's not a bad purchase. Finish:

The label suggests notes of "apple, melon and tropical fruits accented by subtle spicy earth and mineral notes." I can't add anything to that profile description. All I can say is it's delicious. It has a light flavor and mouthfeel, with a slight bite at the end.

Unremarkable.
