About this bottle

This rum is produced in Mexico by Licores Veracruz, S.A. de C.V., using both continuous column and pot stills for its molasses and sugarcane juice distillation. The rum matures in European white oak barrels. Presented in a bottle adorned with amate tree fibers, this "Art edition" features unique designs by artist Master Victor Fernandez, with each bottle individually numbered. The rum itself displays dark chocolate hues with rusty amber highlights, lightening to mahogany with amber in the glass. When agitated, it forms a thick band with slow-releasing legs.

Alvina Burleson 3.8

Dark brown in color. Vanilla, bitter chocolate, brown sugar, and sugar cane on the nose. Fairly thin and a little lacking in flavor. Not as sweet as the nose would suggest. Burnt raisins and vanilla flavor profile. Interesting to sample a "Mexican" rum for comparison/contrast with traditional rum producers. 3.65.

This bottling is more intricate than the 15-year-old. Its color is darker yet clear, and the aroma is similar with wood and barely any spice. I believe it has more sugar than the 15-year-old, though it's barely noticeable. The aftertaste is longer and less intense with alcohol. It's a worthwhile addition to a collection, not bad.

The bottle itself is quite attractive! The primary aroma is brown sugar, followed by hints of molasses and nearly-burnt caramel. There's too much alcohol burn to discern much flavor, but the finish is black licorice -- yuck! This is definitely not for me. Tastes evaluated from neat sipping.

Antonia Burt 2.8

Nose: toasted/caramelized sugar, faint fruity notes, vanilla. Palate: oak, raisins, dates, with caramelized sugar towards the end. Finish: rather dry and lingers.

Mexican Rum! “Molasses - Roasted Brown Sugar, hints of Vanilla” Allow a cube of ice to melt into this one. A 20-year single barrel for $35 is unbeatable!

Darcy Venegas 4.0

A sweet and woody initial taste followed by a smoother, smokier second sip. Pleasant caramel aroma.
