Reagan Delgadillo 3.3

The aroma starts with sweet ethanol, which persists but eventually allows hints of tropical fruit, vanilla, caramel, and toasted wood to emerge. It's surprisingly enjoyable. The taste is light, a little creamy, and semi-sweet, featuring prominent vanilla alongside some barrel spice, wood, and faint caramel. Despite being rum, it strongly resembles a light whiskey. The finish lasts longer than anticipated, leaving my tongue partially numb, with a lingering bittersweet caramel and oak flavor in the middle of my mouth for quite some time.

This rum was fantastic. I tasted it some time ago, before I developed a better palate for quality spirits. Unfortunately, it's no longer available, but I have the 2007 expression set aside. The taste was enjoyable, but if you get the chance to sample any of Don Q's Double or Aged casks selections, you should. The Vermouth and Sherry versions are particularly noteworthy.

Joni Nieves 4.5

An elegant, single barrel release from the Puerto Rican rum producer Don Q, crafted in 2005 and matured in American white oak. It greets you with an aromatic bouquet of sugarcane, grilled pineapple, and toffee; its rich and creamy development introduces notes of coffee bean and vanilla, culminating in a well-balanced, moderately long finish. Sampled June 2017.

This rum, to me, demonstrates the importance of the rum blender. This one-note dry rum with a fair amount of heat could be a key ingredient to a great blend. As it is, it's a really good cocktail rum, but not for sipping.

Virginia Covarrubias 4.3

Superb. It reminds me of a fine bourbon with just a touch more sweetness characteristic of rum. It possesses more spice than a typical rum. Highly enjoyable.

Quincy Ezell 4.0

Well-balanced, with oak influence. A complex and engaging palate.
