Incredible. Truly remarkable. Occasionally, a whiskey appears that makes you ponder the very origins of existence. A gentle swirl in a Glencairn glass leaves a lingering rim. Nose: Graham cracker, banana, followed by dark fruits like cherry, fig, and raisin. Initial Taste: Licorice, not overly sweet, with subtle baking spices such as cinnamon and candied peanuts. Mid-Palate: Introduces dark fruits, chocolate-covered cherries, pencil shavings, dill, and pepper. Harmonious cherries, orange marmalade, perhaps marshmallow? A jam-like fig, with a slight char on the exhale. Finish: Endlessly long, a flavorful journey that fades in and out. Dry oak tannins, more dark fruit, a hint of rye pepper, yet everything is exceptionally well-balanced. Adding a few drops of water enhances the rye spice, introduces bubblegum candy, and chocolate pecans. Caramel and some cinnamon vanilla emerge. A masterpiece from Mayville. Why can't all whiskies be this exceptional? This inspires contemplation: 1) What is the flavor profile of Pappy Van Winkle Barrel Strength? 2) What would be the taste of a mixture combining a barrel of Larue with GTS and half a barrel of Sazerac Cask Strength? 3) Is OFC a honey barrel equivalent of GTS? 4) When these barrels are named, it happens only after bottling; what else could they be but simply magnificent? About this bottle
Created by Sazerac’s Master Blender Drew Mayville, who previously served as the fourth and final Master Blender under the Seagram label for 22 years, this expression honors Sam Bronfman, known as “Mister Sam.” This is the second release, a blend of American and Canadian whiskey stocks from Sazerac. It was bottled at Sazerac’s Old Montreal Distillery in Montreal, Quebec, at 122.6 proof and became available in the U.S. and Canada in September, 2021.
