About this bottle

This 100% Highlands blue agave añejo tequila is the creation of Maestra Tequilera Ana Maria Romero Mena. It undergoes a unique 18-month aging process in four distinct cask types: American white oak, French oak, acacia wood, and finally, cherry wood for the last two months. Consistent with other Mijenta Tequilas, the paper label and packaging are produced from agave waste materials. It became available online starting May 2, 2022, for an initial two-month period, followed by broader distribution in select states. The suggested retail price is $199.

Annika Rojo 4.8

An elegant agave spirit created by Maestra Tequilera Ana María Romero for Mijenta Tequila. Produced at Nom 1499 in Jalisco (Los Altos Southern), it was crafted in stainless steel and aged for roughly 18 months in four specially made casks – American white oak, French oak, acacia, and cherry – before being bottled at 40% ABV. It begins with aromatic notes of cooked agave, dried fruits, flowers, wood, earth, herbs, and spices. Its full and elegant development adds flavors of cherry, pineapple, butterscotch, and orange blossoms, leading to a balanced, medium-length finish with a hint of pepper, oak, cocoa, cinnamon, coffee, and tobacco.

An elegant Agave Spirit from Casa Tequilera De Arandas NOM 1412 in Jalisco (Los Altos Southern), made in stainless steel, aged for around 18 months in 4 custom casks -- American white oak, French oak, acacia & cherry before being bottled at 40% abv. It has an aromatic start with notes of caramelized agave, dried fruits, flowers, wood, earth, herbs & spices; while a full & elegant progression adds hints of cherry, pineapple, vanilla & orange blossoms; that led to a quick & delicate end with a hint of pepper, oak, mace, anise, saffron, cocoa, cinnamon, coffee & tobacco.

MIJENTA is a top-tier modern tequila, and this Gran Reserva Añejo is a prime example of its quality. However, the significant price jump from the Reposado doesn't quite match the increase in quantity or complexity. While it's a fine indulgence, the Reposado remains an excellent choice.
