LALO Tequila

⌚: Allowed to rest for about 5 minutes. 👀: Very clear, as expected for a Blanco, not many legs; 👃: Very faint earthy vegetal scent, mostly sugar cubes and a little honey; 👅: Super sweet, I haven't tasted a Blanco this good in a while, it almost tastes artificial but with this flavor, I'll accept it; 🏁: The taste is remarkably short and, of course, sweet. A friend told me that to fully appreciate tequila's taste, one should drink it as a Blanco, and this Lalo is one I can truly appreciate. (NOTE: I had this drink while waiting for a performance and had just taken a few other Kirkland Tequila Añejo shots and a couple of CBD gummies which were likely THC instead, but even with all that, this Lalo still stood out above them all.)

From bottle G105687. Sampled neat. I can detect the aroma of this tequila from a distance; it's herbaceous, floral agave, citrus, and saline. On the palate, there's sweet roasted agave, a light smoky earthy oak character, and salt. Following that are spicy grass and pepper, a hint of bitterness, and citrus peel, which balances the sweetness. The texture is creamy and coats the mouth. The finish is dry, clean, and oily, with a lasting impression. A truly beautiful flavor profile, designed for sipping and savoring. No ethanol burn or off-notes, and it's very drinkable. One of my top tequilas encountered so far.

I'm outside my usual territory with this one. Some tequila samples arrived from a friend, so I figured, why not give them a try. The aroma has agave (I'm new to this, so maybe I'm missing something), it's very noticeable, along with lemon/lime zest. The taste has a bit of pepper, lemon zest, it's easy to drink, not much alcohol sting, and the finish is nice, with a slight tartness/dryness... there's a little something I can't quite place... still figuring it out. I've heard some people enjoy this on ice, but at 40% ABV, I'm hesitant to dilute the flavor.

Lalo Tequila focuses on producing the world's "best Blanco tequila." Unlike his predecessors, who favored reposado tequila as the "best," Lalo tequila produces a vibrant and bold Blanco. Aromas of cooked agave, pepper, tangerine, and wheatgrass are followed by strong flavors of agave and pepper. The citrus notes flash on the finish. Mineral notes are also present, but this is a very traditional, additive-free Blanco that is agave-forward.

Phenomenal representation of a blanco. Pure, crisp, and easy to sip. Lots of cooked agave on the nose, which transfers to the palate. A little pepper on the back end but not overbearing. Drinking this tequila transports you to a freshly cut agave field and the distillery where the piñas are roasted. Definitely a favorite, and I use it to introduce people to true, authentic tequila as opposed to overly sweetened mainstream brands.

A clean, fresh agave aroma with a subtle hint of oak. An extremely smooth entry with a light sweetness, a mild vegetal taste, and notes of marshmallow, vanilla cream, and white pepper. The overall impression is refreshing, contemporary, and full of flavor. An excellent tequila for sipping, and it will also enhance your Margarita, Tequila Sour, or Ranch Water. A welcome addition to any agave spirits collection.
