I received a generous sample from one of my nephews. Nose: Delicate, with notes of shortbread and butter cookies, graham cracker, treacle, and overripe fruits. It’s very subtle, but I enjoy it. Palate: Smooth, with light fruits and baking spices, shortbread cookies, and milky tea; it’s very easy to drink. Finish: A somewhat short finish with warm milky tea and shortbread and graham crackers. The empty glass retains all the best aromas. I feel like I should appreciate this more than I do, and I want to, but it’s a bit underwhelming.

About this bottle
The 2023 edition of Midleton Very Rare marks the 40th bottling for the brand and the third created by Master Distiller Kevin O'Gorman. This year's limited release comes in recyclable packaging, replacing the wooden case used since 1990. The Irish whiskey is a combination of single pot still and grain distillates. For the 2023 release, O'Gorman increased the proportion of pot still whiskey and emphasized the use of refill casks. Midleton Very Rare 2023 became available on February 22, 2023, in the US, Canada, global travel retail, Europe, Australia, and Asia, with a suggested retail price of $250.
