Midleton Very Rare 2011

Initially, I encountered an unpleasant sulfurous note in this bottle for a significant portion of it. However, the luxury aspects were undeniable, from the cookie-like crust to the exotic tartness of goji berries and a silky texture. It arrived in a wooden box and was labeled "very rare." Later, after comparing it with other whiskies, the sulfur note had vanished, and this bottle emerged as the clear favorite. This entire experience has been perplexing. These bottles are collectible, and the price has escalated significantly since purchase. It was a major letdown to taste sulfur for most of the bottle, but now I anticipate missing it. I might consider trying another release in the future, despite the "very rare" labeling and lack of transparency being off-putting, much like the sulfur. This highlights how perceptions can change from the initial tasting to later stages. Without the sulfur, it offers a masterful blend with a distinct single pot still character, characterized by spices, fruits, oils, and earthiness, far surpassing mainstream luxury competitors and even some other highly-regarded bottles. However, current versions are expensive, and for a comparable splurge on an Irish whiskey, another specific bottle is recommended. Score: * (unforgettably good... eventually). Current releases are $175-230, with prices expected to rise. I estimate its worth at $140, now that I know to wait for the sulfur to dissipate.
