While not reaching my expectations, it's still solid. Prominent notes of vanilla, oak, smoke, and char greet you. An intriguing salty brine, unmentioned in prior reviews, complements a leathery finish. A pleasing, distinct complexity. The finish is intense and fiery, a lasting warmth. Blissful agony.

About this bottle
This iteration of the Michter's US*1 Bourbon series involves two stages of maturation. Initially, the bourbon is aged in new charred oak barrels, followed by an additional period in specially constructed toasted barrels. These barrels are air-dried for 18 months and then toasted, rather than charred.

This was the second in a trio of pours. Upon initial tasting, you detect a whisper of citrus, orchard fruit, and a touch of charred lumber. It begins with an easy entry but concludes with a biting end. This bourbon would be a great partner for a couple of beers.
One of my preferred bourbons. The additional toasting helps to balance the sweetness of the standard Michters, imparting a smoky, toasty flavor and more body. I had not considered the beer flavor connection before; I will have to try it and see.
I haven't been a big fan of this bourbon due to its intense sweetness. The toasted barrel's smokiness balances the sweetness perfectly. I regret not purchasing a bottle when I had the chance.
Smells of deep caramel and milk chocolate, with faint baking spices. Milk chocolate is prominent on the palate, with a finish of moderate length. A satisfying pour, and worth tasting if you have the opportunity.
What I perceive as stonefruit sits beneath the vanilla. It's quite sweet and fruity; I'm really enjoying it. The flavor persists for a substantial duration on the finish. Vaniiiiilllaaaaa. However, the burn can be a bit intense.
