Okay, I admit I'm biased towards my home state's producers, including distillers, brewers, and wineries. However, this producer makes some really good spirits without needing that local advantage, with some amazing vodkas and whiskey. This is the first taste of their rye I've had, so I'm hesitant but hopeful. The aroma is like sassafras and a bit sharp, similar to a masculine cologne. The initial taste is more of that root beer and rye combination with a mild burn that fades quickly. This is an unusual dram because it seems to lack the strong pepper typically found in ryes, leaning instead towards a smoother profile. In summary, not as good as other offerings from this producer, but still a decent choice if you're seeking a smoother rye than most available.
