Matsui Peated

N: Initially a powerful smoke, which mellows with time. The smoke has a distinct peat funk, evolving into more of a wood smoke, akin to being downwind from a campfire. A notable fishiness emerges, reminiscent of dried, smoked fish – quite intriguing. It evokes memories of sharing Russian beer and smoked sardines with a former acquaintance. Pleasant recollections. Citrus, lemon cake, and other vibrant fruits complete the profile. P: The initial taste is smoked fish, now salty, followed by a pleasant, round caramel that smooths the sharper notes. It's very juicy and sweet, like fruit candy or syrups. Vanilla slightly tempers the sweetness. Eventually, the smoke detaches from the fish, leaving a gentle, pleasant smokiness throughout. Yellow cake underlies it all, also lightly smoked. The finish is dominated by baking spices – perhaps clove, dried ginger, and certainly cinnamon. The heat is moderate but can intensify with rapid consumption. The lingering yellow cake provides a nice balance and added character throughout the finish. This is exceptionally interesting, yet I don't entirely love it. I've finished the bottle without issue but struggle to envision purchasing another. I might, however, find myself randomly craving it in the future. It's unpredictable.

Unremarkable. The Mizunara and Sakura variants offer more flavor and enjoyment. While peat is present, it's not pronounced enough to be described as "peaty" or "smoky." This would be a suitable pour for someone trying to overcome a dislike for peat. It possesses mild fruity and sweet characteristics.

Nosing: lightly peated sweetness Flavor: very peppery and young whisky notes. But complexness in the whisky and it hits all notes of spicy, lightly salty, sweet, Finish: light peatiness

This smoky drink is for individuals who enjoy Islay-style spirits, like Talisker Storm. It's not to my preference.

Smooth with a very gentle mouthfeel. The aroma and flavor are not as strong as I had hoped.

The aroma and taste are reminiscent of an auto repair shop, with notes of gasoline and old tires.
