A 2013 release, this Yamazaki single malt received the World Whisky of the Year designation from Jim Murray in 2015, significantly boosting interest in Japanese whiskies. It is a no-age-statement bottling matured in Spanish oak oloroso sherry casks and presented at 48% ABV.

While not quite deserving of its previous top ranking (and perhaps not even the distillery's finest sherry cask release from 2013), it remains a superb, classic example of sherry cask influence in Japanese whisky. Nose: Raisins, Sakura, Cranberries, Blackberries, Espresso, Gingerbread, Orange Peels, Sandalwood, Plums, Grapefruit, Papaya Palate: Dark Chocolate, Raisins, Prunes, Dates, Cloves, Morello Cherries, Strawberries, Blood Oranges, Christmas Cakes, Ginger, Cardamom, Stewed Apples, Figs, Kiwi Finish: Figs, Mocha, Burnt Orange Peels, Candied Ginger, Mince Pies, Morello Cherries, Strawberries, Blackberries
