Mars Tsunuki peated

The aroma is quite layered. While it exhibits youthful character, it has aged perfectly. Caramelized pears and honey immediately greet you alongside the peat. It comes across as significantly less peaty than many Islay spirits. I'd estimate its peat level to be between 15-25ppm. Rose petals, mint, hay, vanilla, and butter are also noticeable. Oak takes precedence on the nose over the sherry, but there's a distinct layer of sweetness present. The palate is exquisite. Sherry announces itself with a nutty quality, cocoa powder, and brownie batter, amidst a subtle seaweed undertone. The peat seems to have mellowed after about 15 minutes, offering just a perfect touch. Much like the Komagatake series, Tsunuki surpasses expectations for its age. It's certainly pricey, but it's presented with sophistication and demonstrates the excellent work being done by Mars in Japan. These Komagatake and Tsunuki bottles foreshadow what's to come with future standard age statement releases. It's as if Mars is saying, "This is merely the preseason, wait until the main event." Smoky, honeyed, peaty, and salty with a light flavor. Honestly, for the cost, you can skip it; there are many superior Islay options available. It lacks the complexity of some other Japanese whiskies.

A pleasant blend of vanilla, marshmallows, smoke, salted fish, dark chocolate, charcoal, and tropical fruits like pineapple, along with raisin and sultana notes from sherry aging.

Reminiscent of a strong Laphroaig.
