About this bottle

The Delord company releases armagnac under two labels: Delord, honoring their grandfather and the family's first distiller, and Marie Duffau, their grandmother and vineyard owner. The family has continued the armagnac distillation tradition since 1893. This 1979 vintage Marie Duffau is a blend of all four permitted armagnac varietals, with the family's vineyards comprising 70% ugni blanc, 20% baco blanc, 5% colombard, and 5% folle blanche. The distillation process is slow and conducted at a lower temperature than typical for armagnac. It is bottled at 43% ABV.

It's quite fruity, woody, aged, sweet, and spicy. It's very similar to Delord 1981. There's decent complexity, but it could be more substantial. It has adequate richness, but I desire a more robust flavor. I do appreciate the abundant age, however. The caramel and toffee are pleasant, though perhaps a little too sweet. The chocolate is also good. The molasses and brown sugar complement the age. The vanilla is wonderfully prominent, and the tartness provides sufficient balance without tasting like rye.
