After recent discussions about Armagnac on the forum, I decided to try this one. It wasn't quite as I remembered Armagnac to be, though I suspect my memories have been influenced by recent Cognac tastings. It's a very earthy, oak-forward experience; the cask aging is intended to soften the spirit's harshness, but in this case, it seems to have gone a bit too far. You get rich festive fruit, strong burnt caramel, and a bitter, potent earthy oakiness dominating. It's an interesting experience to taste something laid down before I was born, but one dram is enough for now.
