Mama Juana (or Mamajuana) is a spiced alcoholic beverage created by steeping rum, red wine, honey, herbs, and spices. Its taste is comparable to port wine, and it has a red or orange hue. It originated in the Dominican Republic, where the herbs used were traditionally prepared as a tea by the Taíno people. Alcohol was added by the Spanish. The name Mama Juana shares French origins with the term Dame Jeanne (Lady Jane), used to describe a type of bottle. Dame Jeanne evolved into "damajuana" and in the Dominican Republic, became Mama Juana. Source: Wikipedia
