About this bottle

Mad River Distillers in Vermont, USA, produces its First Run Rum using fair-trade demerara sugar from Malawi. The spirit is distilled in a German craft Mueller still and aged in charred American oak before being bottled at 48% ABV. This unaged rum serves as the foundation for other expressions from the distillery, such as Mad River Maple Rum and Mad River Vanilla Rum.

Rebekah Perrin 3.8

The body is thin with no legs. Its color ranges from straw to a pale tan, resembling damp straw. The aroma is dominated by ethanol; however, after the initial sharpness subsides, there are notes of shortbread and mild caramel, but generally, it's a subtle scent. The texture in the mouth is light. A warmth spreads across your palate and the rear of your throat. The flavor hits with a jolt of heat at the back of your throat. This then yields to a touch of vanilla and baking spices, particularly clove, which remains on the back of your tongue. It leaves a slight numbing feeling on the tongue, much like a rye whiskey.

Reminds me of a sweet American whiskey.
