Mackmyra Moment Prestige

Thanks to a friend for the small pour. Lots of orchard fruit on the nose; some alcohol comes through if you inhale too deeply. The palate is strong and filled with youthful, peppy spirit. There’s some pale fruitiness, but it’s overly harsh and dry. The finish isn’t deep, but it is lingering and dry. No wood notes force this one to be simple and mostly one-dimensional. Perhaps if some well-aged spirit had been blended in, there could have been more to discuss, but as it is, it’s purely designed to mix with something else or to “shoot” if you’re looking for a quick buzz. The aroma is like freshly pressed apple juice. I appreciate that. Full flavor on the palate. The finish has subtle notes of plants and butter. The second sip was identical. I'm having trouble pinpointing the main flavor. It's nutty, vegetal, buttery, like popcorn. Very distinctive. No peat, this is not a scotch. It's entirely traditional whisky, feeling a lot like a bourbon. The third sip was more of the same. I would not purchase a bottle or even a single serving. However, I would accept a dram if a friend offered.

An interesting experiment, but not necessarily to my taste. The nose is better, where the fruit elements from the champagne casks are apparent. In the mouth, it does resemble white wine, with a somewhat acidic quality and some fennel/anise notes that, in my opinion, are too strong. It's interesting to taste, but not worth buying.

An excellent whisky. The nose starts well with smooth sherry notes (this is from a champagne cask, just for clarity). On the palate, the whisky lacks intensity but offers a pleasant and calm sensation, again with nice, rounded sherry notes. It's simply delightful.
