Mackmyra Moment Fjällmark

From a Swedish distillery, this blend consists of casks aged 8 to 13 years. It was initially finished in oloroso and PX sherry casks, followed by a finishing period in casks that previously held cloudberry wine. Cloudberries, resembling orange blackberries, grow in arctic regions and have a flavor profile described as a mix of raspberry and currant, with a sweet-tart quality. The aroma was remarkable, akin to strawberry cream, earning a 5-star rating for the nose alone. The palate, however, was somewhat unusual, with bitter, salty notes and a faint hint of smoke. It was an interesting experience, but a small sample was sufficient.

Sample from the Summerton Virtual Whisky Festival. This expression diverges from typical Scotch, possessing a distinct personality. Initially, it presents heavily vegetal notes alongside damp, verdant undertones. Subsequently, it evolves into sweet wood, vanilla, and hints of dried fruit. The finish is protracted and mildly peppery, turning tart as it recedes. It seems rather youthful (despite claims of containing 8-30 year old spirits) and exhibits peculiar, earthy, briny undertones. Its character is unconventional. I'm uncertain if it suits my palate, but further tastings are required for a definitive judgment.

I'm not familiar with this whiskey, nor the fact that it was partially aged in casks that previously held cloudberry wine. Perhaps it's my unfamiliarity, as it doesn't impress me nor does it disappoint. I feel indifferent towards it. The nose definitely lacks the qualities I seek. The palate and finish are adequate.

A dram from a pouch. The aroma immediately brings to mind Sherry. The palate is sweet and smooth with a whisper of smoke. It's rather delicate and youthful, bright and lively. A genuinely pleasant experience.

Nose: A touch of smoke and sweetness. Burnt bacon. Taste: Slightly fruity and spicy, concluding with some bitter chocolate.

The aroma suggested toffee or toast. The flavor profile was peculiar, and it's not a preferred selection.
