Lost Distillery aims to recreate whiskies from long-closed distilleries, often for economic reasons, using extensive historical documentation. The Gerston distillery existed in two phases in the northern Halkirk area of Caithness: from 1796 to 1882 as a respected small operation run by the Swanson family, and from 1886 to 1914 as a large commercial facility producing 80,000 gallons annually. Gerston One was a peated malt, possibly aged in ex-rum casks, while evidence suggests Gerston Two was unpeated. This tasting note pertains to the Deluxe release, not the Vintage edition, of this blended malt.

I believe this is a fantastic dram for introducing people to peated whisky. Aroma: Oak spice with orange peel, a touch of vanilla, and mild campfire smoke. Palate: An oily texture that coats the mouth. Notes of oak spice, orange, and also green fruits, with the smoke being less prominent than in the aroma. Finish: Dry but with a lingering vanilla and a slight spice.
