It has the appearance of engine oil. The initial aroma suggests a dry red wine with underlying sweet notes and a subtle floral scent, nothing overwhelming. A few drops of water are needed on the palate to moderate the alcohol and distinguish the flavors of treacle syrup, tannins, and a hint of peppery peat. Its texture is pleasantly thick and oily. It's promising, but the finish is where it truly excels, reminiscent of cherries coated in dark chocolate and lingering for several minutes with a dry conclusion. It's a satisfying spirit for slow sipping on an autumn evening, although a previous 13-year-old Malbec expression was more striking from the Red series.
