Longrow Red 13 Year Malbec Cask Matured

My knowledge of wine is limited, so this review focuses solely on the flavors I detect. Similar to other red wine finishes I've encountered, this imparts a subtle hue to Longrow's typical golden color. The appearance is lovely, with nice viscosity. Nose - I truly enjoy the signature Springbank BBQ peat notes. There's a sweetness from the wine, but the usual sweet Longrow characteristics are present. The wine notes cause the finish of the nose to become drier. Taste - Overly sweet grape notes from the wine dominate. The finish carries the Springbank BBQ peat. There's a vanilla cookie or vanilla wafer finish. There isn't much more to say about this one for me. It's a very well-crafted whisky, but I don't believe the Malbec was the best wine choice. It introduces a peculiar sweetness that I don't particularly favor. Despite this, it remains outstanding, and I would purchase a bottle if I had the opportunity.

The wine cask imparts aromas of Maraschino cherries and tawny port to the nose. On the palate, the subtle peat is nicely complemented by a long, dry finish. This marks my first experience with Longrow Red, and I find it significantly more appealing than the standard bottlings, which I consider decent but unmemorable.

My initial Longrow Red. It's a robust smoky whisky with a distinctive red wine finish, imparting dark fruit notes alongside well-executed maple bacon. The progression is intricate and varied, with a lingering finish. I would purchase another bottle.

Intriguing. South African Malbec. Pepper, peat and a trace of red wine. I did not add water but perhaps I should have to see if more flavor emerged. A good dram, certainly a 4.

I really enjoy the harmony between the sweetness, peat, and alcohol's warmth. Outstanding!

Finished the last bit of the bottle. This is one of the finest whiskies I've ever had.
