2008 bottling Nose - Very clean for a Longrow. Smells like sugar cookies with light toasted oak, vanilla, and a subtle savory/salty funk characteristic of Springbank. For a Springbank/Longrow, this is exceptionally clean. Taste - It starts off quite spicy, with a lot of pepper and heat. It's youthful but not entirely unrefined. Still a young and fiery whiskey. There's a pleasant sweetness upfront, a hint of medicinal quality, and notes of sherry, but primarily it's fruity vanilla from the Springbank malt. The finish offers a nice peaty and earthy element with a fleeting flavor but a somewhat lasting puckering sensation from the peat, bitterness, and alcohol. Wow, it's remarkably sweet right at the beginning, like a Speyside or Highland, then the smoke and bitterness arrive. Honestly, if you appreciate younger peated whiskies like Laphroaig and want a Springbank variation, this is it. I will add a comparison with the CV and NAS later. Stay tuned. I paid approximately $130 for this aged bottle. Rating: 2.5. I'm enjoying it. Well above average but lacks refinement or sophistication. It's also a bit thin.
