Lone Elm Small Batch Texas Straight Wheat Whiskey

The standard Lone Elm bottling at 90 proof. Genuine wheat whiskey, not wheated bourbon, made with 90% wheat and 10% barley. The aroma is pleasant: melting caramel and maple with cream of wheat. A burst of sweet pipe tobacco and leather accompanies barrel oak. The palate is rich and full, featuring dark caramel drizzled cornbread with an earthier profile. A touch of raw cinnamon and that dense sweet pipe tobacco persist for a long time. Worn saddle leather and charred oak emerge on the finish. The aftertaste is lasting, with the sweetness complemented by some melted butter and dry hardwoods. I can now see the Cowboy associations. They utilize the same Texas red winter wheat, which must impart the wonderful sweet pipe tobacco note in both. The single barrel version of this is superior with higher proof, but this is still very good and a worthwhile purchase if the single barrel is unavailable.......86/100......solid value and easy to buy again.......final detail: this is only 90 proof but handles water very well while maintaining maximum flavors.....the main point is this is a Texas distillery worth exploring.

Nose: Sweet and mild, with notes of toasted bread and vanilla. Only a subtle touch of oak and cinnamon. Palate: Smooth. Initially presents vanilla and pleasant nuttiness. It then reveals notes of dried cherry/raisin, which are quite prominent for me. Not deeply complex, but very easy to drink. Finish: The dried cherry/raisin notes evolve into a chocolate-covered raisin flavor. Additional vanilla and cinnamon contribute to a taste characteristic of Texas.

Vanilla, caramel, and oak are prominent initially. The aroma is pleasant. The vanilla flavor is mild and warm, leaving a pleasant sensation. I find it enjoyable.
