Lock Stock & Barrel 13 Year Straight Rye

Discovered this at a local establishment (Overtime in Lombard, IL.) which boasts an excellent bourbon collection. The aroma has a medicinal quality from the potent rye, grains, cheerios, and floral notes, with a touch of sweetness. The palate presents nutmeg and other baking spices, cherry lozenges, young rye dough, and unripe berries. The texture coats the entire mouth with a light oiliness and a pleasant numbing sensation. Rye enthusiasts should definitely try this. Keep sipping, my friends... Cheers

Neat. Distinctive flavor. Not what I expected... in a positive way "0-1: Beyond bad. A complete waste of money based on my taste. 2: Bad. Simply not to my liking 2.5: Sub-par. I'll drink it... but only because it's whiskey. 3: Good. Decent stuff, but not worth repurchasing 3.5: Very good. I might buy it again 4: Excellent: Will be buying a bottle immediately 4.5: Incredible: Top of my purchase list 5: Amazing: The cost and flavor are worth every cent"

Smells of spice, apple pie, and vanilla. The mouthfeel is moderately full with spice and vanilla, but the ending is dry and tannic. The flavors aren't perfectly balanced. After resting in a glencairn for a while, the finish nearly disappears. Overall, it's an acceptable rye; I appreciate the age, aroma, and initial texture. It's not a top pick for me, and I wouldn't pay $120 retail for it. Rated 3 to 3.5 out of 5.

This is flawless. This rye isn't overly potent or heavy. It felt quite pure and harmonious. Did it seem drier or perhaps a bit smoky? It offered a taste so distinct from my usual rye experiences that I found it challenging to discern all its subtleties! Well done, Lock, Stock, and Barrel—you've crafted a delightful rye.

I'm open to revisiting this in a while, but all I'm getting is a strong pencil eraser flavor. It's truly awful. I'm surprised by the positive feedback. I had a similar experience with the WhistlePig Rye 15 year, so perhaps there's a pattern for me with Canadian Rye...

It possesses that wonderful bready aroma I appreciate in complex ryes, yet it feels surprisingly 'thin' on the initial taste. This isn't to say it's unenjoyable, but the higher-aged Willetts expressions are more to my preference. Disregarding the cost, this is an excellent rye.
