Limestone Branch Experimental Collection Single Barrel 100% Malted Rye

I approached this with an open mind, not anticipating much due to the low ratings. However, it was on sale for $20 (for a 375ml bottle), so I didn't have much to risk. I have to give it some credit – it's fantastic for what it is. Made from 100% malted rye and aged for only 22 months, this single barrel rye had an almost tropical aroma. My first impression on the nose was pineapple, but after letting it sit for about 10 minutes, the entire dram transformed into a peach explosion. A big, fuzzy, peach explosion. I can't detect anything else besides a little bit of baking spices. This isn't a complicated dram, but the peach flavor is quite pleasant. I absolutely do not regret my purchase, as this is very different from any whiskey I've tried before, and it's a very smooth drink!

I found this quite enjoyable, though it's notably different from other spirits I've sampled. Smell: Reminiscent of Pine-Sol, with herbal, minty, or menthol notes. Taste: Intense herbal notes, like Thai basil and fresh mint, perhaps with a hint of cherry. Finish: Dry and somewhat medicinal.

Mediocre. I was drawn to it because of the reasonable cost. The 18-month aging period might be a factor.

It's acceptable. I had higher expectations. There's a strange aftertaste that I can't quite place.

The nose doesn't offer much. There's some spice and peculiar flavors I can't quite identify.

I didn't dislike it, but I wasn't particularly fond of it either. I wouldn't purchase it.
