Leopold Bros. New York Apple Whiskey

I was genuinely excited to sample it, but after a few sips, I discarded the entire bottle. It's puzzling how a distillery can produce exceptional, albeit inconsistent, cordials (I'm referring to the Maraschino, which earns an immediate five stars) and yet have their whiskeys (whether flavored or American/Maryland Rye) be so divisive. I only mention this in light of the overall ratings. I haven't personally encountered anyone who loves it, but I appreciate bold experimentation. So, kudos for the attempt.

This is excellent for hot toddies! While I don't usually enjoy flavored whiskey, a friend really highlights the inherent apple flavor here. It's completely natural.

Caramel, nutmeg, and apple pie. Raisin and dried fruit in the finish. Best served as a mixer or after a meal. In a market with many flavored spirits, this brand does it correctly.

A really nice balance of flavors. The apple isn't too strong, and the other notes come through... this is the best of the Leopold Brothers Fruited Whiskeys.

Batch 1479. Heavy molasses, vanilla, and dark brown sugar. The aroma is pleasant, but it's too sweet for my liking, resembling pancake syrup.

It presents with oxidized fruit and rich apple notes, quite similar to pommeau. The finish is sweet, though less so than a liqueur, with lingering notes of vanilla and wood.
