Laphroaig 10 Year Cask Strength (Batch 7)

A smoky, vegetal sweetness with dark dried fruit on the aroma. Hints of sherry are very subtle. Medicinal and peat notes are not overwhelming, unlike some others. Initially, the palate presents delightful vanilla, leather, and dried fruit, including dried apples. Medicinal hints are present but don't linger. The smoke evolves from its initial profile to a blend of toasted oak and mesquite. Smoke remains in the lengthy, oily finish, accompanied by lemon or grapefruit zest and a touch of spicy zing. As a drinker of bourbon and rye, I find this exceptional. It may not impress immediately, but it improves significantly with multiple tastes over time. Recommendation: enjoy with milk chocolate and chopped bacon for an elevated experience!

Recently discovered this aged, old bottle near a construction site in Oceanside, CA. First pour. Served neat, this is a difficult whiskey to enjoy. The nose has honey, a camphor-like scent, and faint peat, with little else. The palate is thick, oily, and medicinal, with a mild, smoky, honey note. The finish is long with a semi-sweet, eucalyptus-like note. I anticipate it will improve with more air time. Edit: This change occurred quickly. After one day open, the nose and palate gained nice notes of vanilla and lemon. The score has been increased by 1/4 point. Edit: Three months of being open have calmed the intensity of the nose and palate. The score has been raised another 1/4 point.

Wonderful. It's currently my top peaty whiskey. I, like many, was introduced to whiskey by Ardbeg. On the nose: Smoky with a hint of sweetness. As it sits, it becomes more like burnt caramel. On the palate: After the peat, there are notes of vanilla honey with sea spray.

Recommend adding water. Smells like: burning wood, ocean spray, medicinal notes, peat, smoke, seaweed, salt, and iodine. Taste: starts sweet with honey, then the peat and smoke emerge, very powerful but watery consistency. Finish: extended and warming, the sweetness remains.

A pleasant, gradual warmth. A floral finish. Slightly sweet. Exactly how I prefer it.

Intensely smoky, with notes of iodine and a salty brine. It's earthy and bitter.
