L'Encantada XO Armagnac Lot Winston

My initial experience with Armagnac. I haven't been overly impressed by Cognacs I've tried, but I've heard good things about Armagnac and this producer in particular. This selection comes from three single vintage casks for a local restaurant: 1985 Domaine Del Cassou, 1989 Domaine Lasalle, and 2004 Domaine Bellair. The aroma offers nutmeg, tobacco, aged wood furniture, and spiced apple cider. The taste begins with mild sweetness and a touch of citrus, then edges toward excessive woodiness before thankfully returning to pleasant fruitiness. Cinnamon and clove are present. Perhaps grilled pineapple? It concludes with a blend of fruit and woody tannins. I'm quite satisfied for a first try. The aged wood notes are prominent, but it has some fruity equilibrium and good complexity. I could certainly explore this category further, though Armagnac is rarely seen on shelves in Oklahoma, limiting my opportunities.
