Kurayoshi Pure Malt Whisky

I've noticed the Kurayoshi Blended Malt quite a bit recently, but I've always skipped purchasing it. Fortunately, an acquaintance bought a bottle and shared a couple of glasses for my review. On the nose, I detect grapefruit juice, along with a hint of apple juice. It's actually very light; extremely fresh and earthy. Pear peel. Pear is an exact aroma note here. On the palate, more Pears. Exceptionally fruity and fresh. I can perceive grain whisky after a few seconds (which is unexpected since this is supposedly a blended malt). Marshmallows. It leaves a fruity aftertaste. Fresh. Pears, hay, and freshly cut grass. In summary, I get why people appreciate this one, as it offers a very straightforward and fruity experience akin to a Glenfiddich 12yo. Incredibly easy to drink, and enjoyable enough for a novice, you could serve this dram to anyone and they wouldn't call it a bad drink. For me, it's too standard and fruity, and I can get a typical 'fiddich' for less money. My rating is 80 out of 100.

Sampled neat from my Flaviar tasting box. It's sweet on the nose with fruit notes like a green caramel apple and figs. On the palate I notice nuttiness with plenty of pecan and to be precise: similar to the part of the pecan that when you bite it, you might accidentally taste the bitter inner shell. Somewhat spicy. An interesting flavor profile!

Nose: subtle, gentle heat, harmonious Palate: anise, oak, faint smoke, touch of bitterness. Finish: peppery, smoky, whisper of bitterness

The best Japanese whisky I've sampled to date. Smooth. Numerous aromas and flavors emerge - it appears to change!

Aroma of lemon cakes; tastes like pears and marshmallows. Quite good for a 3-year malt. Unchill-filtered.
