Skyler Salisbury 4.3

The aroma presents a heavily yet delicately peated opening, accompanied by a breath of sea air, subtle grassiness, mild sweetness, and a gentle spiciness. There's an initial barnyard earthiness to the peat smoke that evokes wet hay and oily wool. With time to air, this gives way to vanilla sweetness, apple perfume, a hint of lemon, a pinch of pepper, a stale cinnamon stick, cocoa powder, and just a trace of licorice root. On the palate, it's initially malty sweet, then rapidly becomes spicy and smoky with sharp orange citrus, cracked pepper, cayenne, and ash. Subsequently, the apple and vanilla take over as the heat subsides. It has a light to medium body with adequate viscosity. The whisky retreats in the glass like waves from the shore, leaving no distinct legs but just a few droplets. The finish is semi-dry, with a slightly metallic start. Then the peat smoke returns, along with spicy oak, more cocoa, cool slate, lingering malty sweetness, and finally, oily hazelnuts. Nose: 9 Palate: 9 Body: 7 Finish: 9

This is my second bottle, and I preferred the first one. I wish I had written down my notes on that one for comparison. This reminds me of Ledaig. Pepper, lemon, ozone, coriander, and a subtle campfire aroma. The finish is medium-long, with a fizzy sensation and some harshness. I'd buy it again if I needed a tiebreaker.
