August 2023 - Very pale color. Minimal aroma. Taste is too clear, too pure. Lingering aftertaste is quite harsh and earthy on the second sip. The smokiness only emerges at the third stage. A rather disappointing whisky. Lacks peat and smoke in the primary flavors. You can't even give it as a gift to your father-in-law to piss him off, because it's not bad enough for that. It's an average whisky, mediocre at best, very French...

About this bottle
Distillerie Grallet Dupic is situated in the small French commune of Rozelieures. The nearby extinct Essey La Cote Volcano influences the clay and limestone-rich soil where barley varieties sébastian, etincel, and esterel are grown for all their whiskies. This peated single malt (20ppm), double-distilled in traditional Charentes pot stills, has been exclusively matured in Fino sherry casks. It is also identified as Rozelieures Brown Smoked due to its bottle's brown foil top.

My first experience with French whisky. The Fino sherry is very noticeable and almost perfumy sweet, with some balanced smoke present as well. The aftertaste has a bit of spice and finishes with a touch of honey. I really like this!
The finest French whisky I have experienced. It possesses all the qualities we appreciate in a subtly smoky whisky.
