Kirk and Sweeney Gran Reserva Superior

The nose features lovely bright notes of vanilla, wood, and cinnamon over a base of dark, rich rum character. Initially, the palate appears light and sweet, but it quickly transforms into a dry, slightly sharp spirit with vibrancy and depth. Ample baking spice is present. The body is medium-heavy, with most of the peppery notes residing at the back of the palate. Woody flavors dominate the front, leading to a long, dry, and clean finish. This is a delightful sipping rum, showcasing the mastery of barrel aging.

The alcohol vapors dominate the caramel-marshmallow aroma. A pity. The caramel flavor is disappointingly subtle, but the alcohol burn is pronounced. The 23-year-old expression was superior. Ratings are based on neat sipping.

Some spice on the finish of the aroma and the finish of the palate. Quite like other Kirk and Sweeney rums of comparable age.

Baking spices on the nose, a sweet taste with notes of raisin, and a rich finish with cinnamon. Enjoyable to sip. The bottle design is also appealing.

It's good, but not nearly as impressive as the 23-year-old it replaced.

A dependable rum. Quite smooth and pleasant to sip. Feels more mature than a typical dark rum, in my opinion.
