About this bottle

Glengyle Distillery, originally established by William Mitchell in 1872, reopened in 2004, more than 125 years later. The distillery has a varied history, marked by changes in ownership, interruptions in whisky production, and multiple investor efforts to revive it. Hedley Wright, great-great nephew of the founder, eventually purchased the distillery, making its revival a reality. While awaiting the 12-year maturation period for its primary whisky, the distillery is releasing a series of "Work in Progress" bottlings. This bourbon-matured expression represents the second component of their WIP #5 release, with the first being a sherry-matured single malt. In 2013, only 9,000 bottles were made available.

Ah, Kilkerran. How can I compare you to a spring day? Your aroma is more delightful and less restrained than a meadow of buttercups and a breakfast of buttered malty toast. You offer flavors of lemon and cream with a touch of black pepper, possessing a complexity that defies your mere nine years. Your finish is enduring, crisp, and smooth, without any flaws or excessive oakiness. For as long as people live and can see, I will be devoted to you, Kilkerran.

Aroma: green apple, pine Taste: thin, light peat, barley and hay Finish: short and flat with some spice that appears later Still developing, but quite good. It's young and you can tell it's starting to gain character, but it's not fully there yet. The Work in Progress series offers interesting bottles.

Margo Logsdon 5.0

This particular batch from Campeltown offers its usual profile: salty and smoky, with notes of soot and tar, and it won't appeal to all palates. It has a spirit-forward quality reminiscent of Springbank 10 (a personal favorite), yet it's considerably sweeter. I thoroughly enjoy this whisky.
