Kilkerran 8 Cask Strength (2021)

I'm a bit of a fool, but for my 399th review, I might as well try something I'm not expecting much from. Nose - It's funky... someone else mentioned it, and it's true, like a mix of cheese and candy. Then I detect young red wine. Coastal levels of salt and roasted oak. I thought this was new, not a re-charred barrel? But it definitely presents as sherry. It has a very substantial, malty, salty body with red wine funk and a youthful character throughout. However, I don't dislike it. Taste - I actually don't mind this one at all! Oh my, there's some good elements here. The initial taste is sweet malty goodness with hints of milk chocolate. I get some fruitiness, some big bold malt, and the wine that seemed funky on the nose is pleasant now. It's a bit sour towards the end, showing its youth, and everyone who mentioned sulfur is spot on. The sulfur becomes more pronounced with each sip, but the clean initial taste almost balances it out. Folks, I believe this is a perfectly pleasant and reasonably enjoyable high-proof sherry bomb. You should be okay with sulfur and a noticeable alcoholic bite from its youth. My rating is 2 stars; it's an average whisky, and that's perfectly acceptable for what it is. If you come across it, I'd suggest trying it, but be aware if you're sensitive to sulfur.

This whiskey offers a funky cheese character. An excellent bottle, well worth the cost. From: Totalwine Price: 89 usd Nose: Peat, green apple, shortbread, and a molded cheese aroma (like a fresh bag of Cheetos). Palate: Milk chocolate, salt, walnut, burnt rubber, and sugar. Finish: Peat, malty, and pencil shavings. #DAD

On the nose: apricots, dark fruits, sherry, smoke, green apple. Palate: milk chocolate, more apricots, peat of course, and the sherry still overpowering. A long, sweet, and pleasant finish. Great whisky!

Rich. Nutty. Some oakiness and woody spice. Abundant rich brown sugar sweetness. Salted caramel. An amazing dram.

Aroma: rubber Flavor: sharp, young. A drop of water distinctly mellows it, improving the taste and reducing the sharpness.

Impressive across the board; quite possibly the finest scotch I've ever tasted.
