About this bottle

Kilchoman Casado, a limited edition peated single malt with 50 PPM, signifies a marriage of casks, as indicated by the Portuguese name. The whisky, distilled in 2014, spent at least six years aging in ex-bourbon barrels before 38 of these were combined and finished in two large Portuguese red wine casks. Bottled in 2022 at 46% ABV without chill filtration, this release is capped at 12,900 bottles globally, with 1,500 allocated to the U.S. market.

Arabella Regalado 3.8

Blind tasting Nose: Peaty yet sweet, similar to Lagavulin or Ardbeg. Taste: Light peat, a hint of pineapple, slightly thin. A touch of rubber. Cask type: bourbon. Rating: 3.75 stars. Notes: My favorite so far in the advent calendar, but I don't need a bottle. Could it be Lagavulin rum? That would be a stretch.

Darien Decker 4.5

Smell: campfire, prunes, currants, stale air, walnuts, baking spices Taste: layered, smooth, stone fruit, pecans, growing heat at the end Aftertaste: peat, honey, syrupy, lingering

Haleigh Duncan 3.8

Bourbon aged 6 years. Portuguese wine aged 2 years. Torba. Notes of candy and sweetness. Cooked apples on the finish, quite lasting.

Miles Aaron 4.0

Smooth with a warm initial sensation and an aromatic finish.

Donovan Poindexter 3.0

It's good, but lacks distinctiveness. I had higher expectations.

Brittney Borges 3.8

Sampled at the Dornoch whisky festival.
