Kentucky Owl Takumi Edition Bourbon

While you shouldn't let price dictate a review, charging around $120 opens the door for more scrutiny. This whiskey is good. It has a slightly herbal profile and a creamy texture. It's a bit too sweet on the palate. There's also a hint of spicy apricot. Considering all that, it shouldn't cost $120. I understand the brand is capitalizing on its past acclaim, but this doesn't measure up. I preferred Confiscated, which is also known for being overpriced. Keep your money.

First off, this is definitely not worth the $150 price tag. Absolutely not. In today's market, it should be around $60. The packaging is eye-catching, but you're not purchasing a box.

The aroma is very nutty and woody, with oak notes from start to finish. I'm trying to find other enjoyable components. It's intense and spicy; I'm looking for some fruit or sweetness to balance it. I thought the St Patrick's edition was superior. It might need some time to breathe before I try it again. It's good, but not exceptional. I don't regret buying it, but I might choose a different bottle next time.

A very smooth mouthfeel with a touch of spice on the finish. A genuinely pleasant dram, but if I were comparing Kentucky Owl Confiscated and Takumi at a similar price point, I find the oakiness of Confiscated more appealing than this offering. It's a very good bourbon with an attractive label and bottle, and at 50% ABV, it goes down quite easily... perhaps too easily?

The aroma is very hot alcohol, followed by corn, baking spice, vanilla, and perhaps some light caramel. The flavor is very spicy, with light corn and vanilla emerging afterward. Possibly some faint tobacco notes as well. It has a thin body and a slightly astringent finish. Faint baking spice remains.
