Yellow Rose Harris County Bourbon

An intense Straight Bourbon Whiskey from Yellow Rose Distilling in Houston, Texas, crafted with 100% locally grown grains. It features a mash bill of 65% Yellow Corn, 25% Elbon rye, and 10% San Jacinto Malted Barley. It's double pot-distilled and aged for 30 months in American white oak before being bottled at 92 proof. It presents an aromatic beginning with notes of grain, wood, nuts, herbs, and spices. A bold and spicy character follows, adding notes of vanilla, caramel, rye spice, cinnamon, brown sugar, cherry, fruit-wood smoke, tobacco, allspice, warm pecan pie, toasted coconut, and black tea, along with peanuts. This leads to a long and hot finish with notes of Red Hots. December 2022.

The nose is dominated by notes of cherry, overripe bananas, and a chemical blend. The initial taste offers spiced vanilla and honey, transitioning to lingering cinnamon, rye spices, and a long, smooth finish. Further sips bring to mind freshly brewed tea. It's considerably less harsh than most bourbons aged in charred oak and isn't excessively smoky. Overall, it's quite good.

The aromas start with rye and tropical fruits, which also begin the flavor profile. Cherries and cinnamon dominate the middle, with a bit of the rye still present. It has a medium finish with a subtle hint of unsweetened iced tea at the end. Not bad for a rye.

The nose is sweet and fruity with a subtle leather undertone. The palate is primarily warm and oily, with some spice and vanilla notes appearing afterward. The finish brings back the leather, along with woody and tea characteristics.

The initial aroma has floral and sweet fruit notes. The first sip presents notes of honey and cherries with a hint of cloves, concluding with a spicy grain finish.

Not as enjoyable as the initial sample from the tasting kit. It's not unpleasant, but it does leave a slightly oily sensation on the palate.
