The aroma is more enticing than the original bottle which is finished in cedar cask for less time. Strong scents of vibrant oak, orange zest and honey. The palate comes in hot and strong even for 48%. The oak is overbearing with citrus flavors. The finish is astringent and bitter from the strong cedar casks and sails off in the sunset with some vanilla flavors. This is a bit of a messy dram that is a roller coaster of a ride. There is probably a reason why cedar isn't used very often to age spirits.

Nose: Strong green apple and anise; musty; camphor. Palate: Intense green woody notes; oily purple licorice sticks with those sugary little sprinkles. Finish: Medium; licorice and mustiness. Overall: Lacks depthβprimarily licorice and wood flavors.
The aroma is quite distinct; the cedar influence is potent, making it unusual, at least among the whiskies I've sampled. A genuinely remarkable flavor.
This isn't a daily sipper, but it's absolutely superb for those seeking a robust oak profile complemented by a sugary end.
One of the most unusual whiskies I've ever tried. Intense black pepper. The Japanese cedar adds an interesting unique quality.
