Junipero Gin

Gin, much like whiskey, possesses a distinct character, and no two gins are precisely alike. They might share similarities, but there's always something unique to discover, at least in the superior ones. Consider this gin, for instance – one that boldly emphasizes juniper to such an extent that its name literally translates to "juniper" in Spanish...yet it remains composed and harmonious. The juniper is certainly present, but its sharp, pine-like edges (needles?) are elegantly softened by just the right hint of citrus. The spirit itself is clearly of excellent craftsmanship – it possesses a smoothness and refinement that many unaged spirits bottled at nearly 50% ABV struggle to achieve. It makes a quality gin and tonic (and, I strongly suspect, a martini), but it's also enjoyable on its own. For its price, it would serve as an excellent everyday gin for someone who appreciates classic gin flavors, offering a more sophisticated nuance rather than an aggressive one.

N: Good equilibrium, touches of citrus, licorice or anise, pine, and unmistakable juniper P: Full, velvety, mild spice, perhaps cinnamon, cilantro, cardamom, and juniper F: Post-pepper, it's botanical and somewhat bitter Overall: This gin is a superb execution of a London Dry style, offered at a fantastic price. A reputable distillery produced a very approachable spirit. It's juniper-dominant and shines in a G&T, Martini, Gimlet, and even more creative mixed drinks.

A bit heavy-handed with anise or fennel, making it lean herbal and less savory than usual. Better suited for an Aviation than a dry Martini. It's also quite warming on the finish, making its presence felt in any mixed drink. A truly distinct profile that gin enthusiasts should explore.

Overpowering juniper right at the start, noticeable even with the glass held six inches from my face, and I mean that positively. It also has a very smooth taste for being slightly above the typical proof for its category. Whether in a Martini, G&T, or on the rocks, this is top-tier if you prefer them dry.

I sampled this in a group of three other gins, and my preference order was: Bootlegger, Brooklyn, Botanist, Junipero. Bootlegger had the most appealing aroma. It's unfortunate it's not rated here currently. Junipero might work well as a mixer.

Very nice - juniper is prominent, and it has a pleasant sweetness. It's a very straightforward gin, but in a good way. The bottle I got looks much less flashy than the one in the photo. I'm gay, so I can say that.
