Jonah's Curse Black Spiced Rum

I suspect many of the claimed flavors in this rum are fabricated, but I did discern caramel, molasses, and banana, giving it more complexity than Kraken. I'm also impressed by its smoothness at 94 proof. While 'double gold' may be an overstatement, I acknowledge the technical skill in Jonah's Curse and found it adequately enjoyable. Plus, it's inexpensive! It is exceptionally sweet and quite mild, making it a suitable option for cocktails.

The aroma has notes of molasses, caramel, vanilla, banana, tropical fruits, and a touch of wood. The flavor is extremely sweet, with molasses, banana candy, cinnamon, and allspice. It feels somewhat artificial. The finish is lengthy with saccharine and bitter molasses. Clearly not intended for sipping straight. Excellent for a Rum and Coke.

The aroma features caramel and dark fruits, molasses, plum, cherry, vanilla, and banana. The taste mirrors this but is more intense. The high proof causes a strong burn, and it is very sweet. Despite my preference for sweetness, the rubbery finish and aftertaste were off-putting.

Very much fruit-forward and a touch sweet, yet mellow. It possesses a slight artificial quality, but it is quite acceptable.

Compared to Kraken and Myers, this smells artificial right from the start and has a taste of fake caramel.

A robust, Spiced Rum from the Caribbean with tropical fruit notes.
