Jim Beam Honey

Received this bottle from a family member. It was opened and about three-quarters full. It likely sat in their liquor cabinet for several years. I know it was kept in a dark cupboard, so its age shouldn't affect the taste. I sampled it neat from a glencairn glass this time to get a feel for it, though I've previously enjoyed it as a quick mixer with coke and with ginger ale. The pour is a very pale brassy yellow and appears thin, showing little sheeting or legs. I have no clue about the alcohol content; I didn't check. On the nose – ethanol and a sweet, "whiskey-like" aroma. Upon tasting, it's quite sweet with dominant honey notes that are very one-dimensional. It's similar to a honey-flavored breakfast cereal or something along those lines. There's no complexity whatsoever, naturally. This tastes precisely as you'd anticipate. Considering all that, it's not bad. It's certainly not intended to be consumed straight. When mixed with some type of carbonated beverage, it can be enjoyed. I certainly wouldn't purchase a bottle, as I believe if I ever wanted a honey flavor in a proper cocktail, I'd opt for using a honey syrup instead. But for what it is – a flavored liqueur not meant to be taken seriously – it hits the mark perfectly.

From a sample pack of Jim Beam spirits for a holiday promotion. The third offering. A brief review. You might expect the aroma to be intensely honey-like. You would be mistaken. It's sweet, but more like cherry cough drops and Grenadine syrup that has been sitting around, smelling faintly musty. The flavor differs from the aroma, and this is where the honey appears, but similar to honey cough drops. Syrupy and artificially sweet. It finishes with notes of cream soda and red licorice. I was biased beforehand, anticipating golden honey flavors. Sadly, I got cherry notes instead. Its artificial quality makes it crying out for dilution. Perhaps a spritz with seltzer would work best. For comparison, JD Honey offers a better "honey" taste. [Tasted: 12/5/20]

AROMA/ Sweetness, Vanilla, Sugar, and a hint of honey. FIRST SIP/ Sugary sweetness, a hint of honey. TASTE/ A hint of caramel, a hint of vanilla, sugar, and honey finish. FINISH/ Caramel, vanilla, and honey are all present with mild warmth and a very smooth finish. 70 proof. The bottle claims "a hint of sweetness," but this, my friend, is akin to drinking a liquid Bit-O-Honey. There's minimal bourbon flavor, if any. This is definitively a dessert-style beverage. Enjoy it on the rocks, neat, or mixed with your preferred soda. It's not a highly complex drink, but nonetheless, consume responsibly. CHEERS!!

This is a rather intriguing spirit. Jim Beam Honey is a sweet, flavored bourbon that, in my view, could benefit from being less sweet. Served neat, it's almost syrupy with honey and corn syrup flavors, but it becomes much smoother over ice. However, when poured over vanilla ice cream (with or without pie), it transforms into an exceptional dessert accompaniment. I do like it overall, but as a standalone drink, it's too sweet for my preference.

A well-rounded honey liqueur scent and taste. The bourbon is more noticeable than in other Jim Beam flavored liqueurs. It's enjoyable. Drinking it straight. Golden hue. Smells of honey and oak. Flavors of honey, oak, and sweetness. Light body with a mild burn at the end.

The smell is terrible, and the taste is thick and syrupy, with artificial honey flavor. After a single sip, the entire glass went down the drain. I can't imagine anyone at the distillery tasting this and approving it for the public.
