Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Heritage Barrel Tennessee Whiskey (2019 Special Release)

The aroma is initially, surprisingly strong with esters and ethanol. After a moment, it becomes dominated by extremely ripe, soft bananas, Nilla Wafers, butterscotch pudding, and something reminiscent of pear skins. Almost overly sweet on the nose. The palate is also extremely sweet, though generally quite pleasant. It immediately evokes classic banana pudding, presenting as more Nilla Wafers, whipped cream, banana cream pie, and melted vanilla ice cream. On a second taste, there's an element that reminds me of slightly overcooked butter cookies and dulce de leche. The finish is quite short, with a burst of cinnamon and baked apple, and a lingering note of fresh apples, vanilla, and browned butter. Good, but excessively sweet. Definitely the best Jack Daniel's I've sampled (still haven't tried the barrel proof), but a bit sweeter and milder than I typically prefer. Overall, the flavor and experience are distinctly different from a classic bourbon (yes, I recognize it's a Tennessee whiskey). Fortunately, it avoids the typical Jack Daniel's banana peel notes, offering a rich, tasty, entry-level option for those willing to spend a bit more on a premium product without committing to a barrel proof selection. Still just a touch too sweet for my personal taste. It smells fantastic, with subtle oak, caramel, and vanilla notes. Incredible!

I sampled 31 different bourbons in one evening at this event, and this was one of the few that truly stood out. It's very complex and rich. Notes of tobacco and banana bread are present, as expected, along with a toasted pecan characteristic. It's exceptionally good. I had the chance to try this during a very extended night of whiskey tasting, but unfortunately, I couldn't take thorough notes. I utilize the rating system outlined below. The distiller uses a 5-point scale, while I use a 10-point scale, but I'm sure you're not too impaired to figure that out! 1. Disgusting - So bad I poured it out. 2. Poor - I wouldn't consume by choice. 3. Bad - Multiple flaws. 4. Below average - Not bad, but many things I'd rather have. 5. Good - Just average. 6. Very Good - Better than average. 7. Great - Well above average. 8. Excellent - In a league of its own. 9. Incredible - An all-time favorite. 10. Perfect

There was considerable buzz surrounding this bottling, and I encountered an acquaintance of a friend who had a case, enabling me to acquire one. Nose: An intense vanilla aroma, with undertones of oak and banana. Taste: More vanilla; the vanilla is dominant, intensely candied, and sweet. I perceive the oak as contributing a toasted barrel character. Notes of banana and Dr. Pepper are present, but the core flavor remains vanilla. The alcohol content feels appropriate, perhaps slightly subdued compared to the double barrel barrel proof variant. In summary, a very good pour from Jack, showcasing their intensely sweet profile in a skillfully crafted and easily drinkable expression. 3 stars, significantly above average whisky and an impressive accomplishment by Jack.

This expression is remarkably tasty, much like the Heritage bottling from the previous year. Without question, this is the finest Jack Daniels product I have experienced, and no other comes close. The essence of toasted barrels is prominent, delivering a sweet, spicy, and astringent oak intensity. It rivals Old Forester 1910 and Woodford Double Oak (all from Brown-Forman), yet it possesses a smoother character, and I believe it might be slightly more mature given its profound taste profile at 100 proof. I would happily consume this daily if it were accessible.

This has a strange character to it. The toasted barrel is present, but I can't quite place an earthy note - perhaps tobacco or leather - which I find slightly unpleasant. This is the sole bottle I've tried, and I'm hesitant to try another. It's had over a month to mellow, but it hasn't improved. Could it be cork taint? The taste is almost like... damp vegetation. I had high hopes, but this seems like it might be undrinkable.

Tasted neat. Incredible. Intense chocolate, vanilla, and graham cracker. Delicious aroma. No banana, which I usually associate with Jack. Medium body texture, immediately spicy on the palate. Maple and cinnamon. Transitions back to the intense vanilla and a hint of graham cracker. Not complex but a delightful sipper. Different flavor profile from the other Jack single barrels. I am very pleased with this!
