Hye-Land

Enjoyable, despite some shortcomings. The aroma is heavy with alcohol, accompanied by bland grain and honey notes; neither inviting nor off-putting. The flavor is a pleasant surprise, dominated by honey and buttered bread, similar to Irish whiskey, with a clean, agreeable sweetness. Alcohol is present but not bothersome. The finish echoes the toasted honey, lingering with a subtle bitterness. Labeled as a 'single malt,' seller information indicates it's made from 100% malted wheat, explaining its wheated bourbon-like character. The bottle itself mentions Caucasus mountains for grain origin and 'Hye-land' as a pun on the Armenian word for Armenia. Intrigued by Armenian brandies, I tried this. While not outstanding, especially the nose, it's surprisingly moreish. At $30, it's slightly pricey but reasonable.

Hye-Land 43% alcohol by volume. 12-year-old Armenian Whisky Aged in Armenian Oak and finished in brandy barrels. "Small batch single malt". Produced and bottled in Armenia. Aroma: fruity and sweet Taste: fruity, brandy-like, sweet, very subtle oak in the aftertaste, sweet finish, no unpleasant aromas or flavors, it just doesn't taste much like whisky. Very smooth, an easy sipper on the rocks. I will definitely try it again someday. Cost: gift Grade: B-

A pleasant herbal spice on the nose and palate, reminiscent of a rye. Sweet, vanilla undertones.

Aroma: Ripe apricot, a touch of ginger, and rubber. Taste: Sweetness, vanilla bean, ripe pear, green grapes, and a hint of cinnamon.
