Husk Distillers Ink Sloe and Berry Gin

Nose: Juniper, red berries, lemon peel, coriander. Palate: Sweet, creamy initial taste with excellent harmony between the underlying gin and the steeped fruits. There's a fresh berry flavor and a slight bitterness from the sloes, but while sweet, it's nowhere near as syrupy as some sloe gins I've tasted (e.g., Plymouth Sloe Gin). Finish: Medium/long. The gin botanicals fade first, leaving a bittersweet, mouth-coating berry aftertaste. This is among the better sloe gins I've sampled. As soon as the cork is removed, a wave of fruity aromas is apparent, along with a clear indication of the high-quality gin used. It possesses a crispness, and although sweet, it doesn't seem excessively sugary. It's very pleasant enjoyed neat over ice with a lemon slice, and soda or lemonade can be added for a refreshing long drink. It also pairs excellently with tonic as a sloe G&T. I'm assigning this the same rating as Hayman's Sloe Gin, another favorite of mine in this category. "Very Good": 85/100 (4 stars)
