Another variation of the Highland Park 12 year old. This one is called the "Ness of Brodgar's Legacy," honoring the archeological site of Brodgar's Ring of Stones. When you search for the Orkney Islands online, you'll likely see the ring of stones (similar to Stonehenge) that is part of the Highland Park tradition. This Ring dates back to the Neolithic era, and its function remains unknown. Bottled at 46% ABV, with a burnished gold color. On the nose, it's herbal, fruity, and sweet. Notes of oranges, chocolate, and herbs. Pears and ash. Stout beer and a remarkably impressive cigarette aroma. On the palate, it matches the nose. Herbal, chocolate, and sulfur. Very smooth, with notes of vanilla and cookie dough. Finishing with a very pleasant taste. "Crunch" chocolate and salty, greasy (delicious) barbecued meat. In summary, I believe this is a good single malt; it adds some sweetness to the typical Highland Park profile. A score of 22 out of 25 across all criteria results in a total of 88 out of 100, which seems appropriate for a fine drink.
