Nose: Earthy, notes of chocolate malt, and a hint of smoke. Palate: Mild chocolate malt, gentle spice, with a thin body. Finish: Faint nougat and chocolate malt, reminiscent of a Whopper candy. I believe they are still refining it. While I'm not a huge fan of chocolate flavors, this one is subtle. It's a good change of pace for the palate.

About this bottle
High West High Country is the brand's American Single Malt expression, entirely distilled and blended by High West without sourced whiskeys. The bottling is composed of 100% copper pot distilled whiskey, which is "distilled on the grain," meaning the grain solids remain during fermentation and distillation instead of being filtered out. It uses a tri-malt recipe: 85% base malt, 14% caramel 60 malt, and 1% chocolate malt. The whiskey matures for two to eight years in a combination of freshly charred and second-use oak barrels. This annual limited edition release became available nationwide in December 2022. (SRP $79.99)

It has a malty flavor and a moderate burn that fades quickly. It's not bad, but I prefer other options in the same price bracket.
