About this bottle

High West A Midwinter Night's Dram is an annual limited release that uses the brand's Rendezvous Rye, a combination of straight rye whiskeys. Following the blending process, the whiskey undergoes finishing in French oak and ex-port barrels. It is presented without chill-filtration at 98.6 proof. The title is an homage to Shakespeare's play, A Midsummer Night's Dream. This is a seasonal offering, with different annual releases designated as acts and bottling days referred to as scenes. Act 4 was made available in 2016.

Noemi Meier 4.0

The aroma is very festive, like fresh leather and spice. It has a substantial proof. The initial sip was quite piney and spicy. The flavors develop into oaky brown sugar, cola, and mainly nutmeg. Everything is amplified. The texture is somewhat oily, leading to a long, herbaceous finish. The proof and rye bitterness are a bit strong in the mid-palate development, which I see as a drawback, though not a major one. Would I purchase it at the suggested retail price? Likely. Would I pay a premium for it? No.

Lucille Flannery 3.3

Mellow rye characteristics with eucalyptus, melon, pepper, and notes of brown sugar/honey.

Tim Ulrich 3.0

A common aroma. Causes a burning sensation on the tongue!
